With NFL.com’s Albert Breer reporting that the New England Patriots are “leaning towards” moving Rob Gronkowski to the 53-man roster this weekend, the 24-year-old tight end suddenly becomes a Draft Day steal.
Gronkowski has an ADP of 48, slotting him right around the end of the fourth round in most drafts. But with the potential to be one of the top two tight ends in Fantasy from Week 5 forward, Gronkowski’s draft spot looks especially tasty right now. New England has Danny Amendola and a couple rookies (Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins) as probable starters, so Gronkowski immediately becomes Tom Brady’s top target once he’s activated.
With Jimmy Graham off the board in the second round of most drafts, there is a solid case to be made that Grankowski should rise to the third round with this news. As long as you can supplement him with a low-tier tight end to get you through the first month (think Fred Davis/Coby Fleener), you could be in line for a huge boost with Gronkowski on your roster.
